Perseverance rover – Hear the Mars

Scientists have sent many rovers on mars till now to examine the red planet. Strangeness in scientists have led them to send all the necessary equipment that human geologists use on earth. It helps us in various ways as they can provide the different views with cameras also take the samples of dust and rock with the scoop and analyse them with the equipment they carry.
The perseverance rover of mars 2020 is all about hearting the mars by sending sense of hearing in its robots. They carry a pair of microphones to listen to how mars actually sound like. The rover is all set to land on mars by 18 February 2021 in jezero crater. Baptiste Chide, a researcher in planetary science at NASA said that how incredible it is to carry an instrument that is as simple as microphone because of science.

The rover will carry two microphones with it, one in EDL and other rover’s supercam. These microphones are used for two purposes i.e. science and engineering. It will record the natural audio on mars for the science side. The another part of this is that supercam comes with an upgraded version which carries infrared laser beam in it to heat and vaporize the rocks. The microphones can also record the noise of laser cutting the rocks so that scientists can get the idea about how hard the rocks on mars are. The another microphone in the rover record the sound of the rover’s wheels turn on the surfaces, also about the instruments are working. This microphone works for engineering side as an important diagnostic tool.

The second microphone will be the important microphone as it will be a true mic drop. It records the sound at EDL, also record the firing sound of parachute release, wind at mars, their surface, audio of vehicles engines when it flies away from the rover.
Scientists informed that the sound recorded by the rover may not sound same on mars as of earth because on mars the atmosphere is only 1% dense compared to earth.
According to the scientists this was not the first that a microphone is sent to mars as they have made the several attempts but most of them were unsuccessful. Once it gets landed on mars scientists will release the processed version of first sound of mars with the help of audio experts.
